Bamboo Knitting Needles

I really don't like knitting with metal knitting needles. I'm not sure exactly why, but it just "feels" weird. Because of this I have always favoured plastic, except for skinny ones because they are too bendy. Last year I discovered bamboo knitting needles and I love them! They feel great and aren't bendy at all. So anyway, I went to spotlight the other day and bought five pairs for $1. I felt pretty special. One day I ill ditch all my metal needles in favour of bamboo ones!

Chocolate in the afternoon

I needed chocolate and there was none in the house, so I made a chocolate mug cake! I have made this so many times now. It's the quickest , yummiest cake recipe in the world (well, maybe). Today I made it muddy without choc chips, put half in a bowl (for my bloke) and put chocolate ice-cream on top. It was sooooo yummy. I am just a chocolate freak.

Sitting at the sewing machine

Today was the first time I sat down to sew at my house since the boy was born. I have sewn other places with dozens of energetic babysitters to entertain him, but never on my own. Early in the day I sewed some nappy stuff which got used and missed the photo shoot. Later in the day I made this sun hat.


I used some of the fabric I bought at the Patchwork Apple a few weeks ago. It was easy to make (even with a baby in a sling on my lap) and looks cute. The best thing is it fits! I have been trying to buy a hat for few weeks now and it just wasn't happening. After a couple of minutes on the net I found this great pattern and about 30 minutes making time and it was done. Sewing makes me feel clever!

Another thrilling thing to tell you is I started knitting that jacket! I found some yarn suitable in my stash, so I didn't have to wait for a trip to the shops. Its not too bad so far. Its a bit stretched looking at the sides of the cables which I have no clue on how to fix. If I can work it out I might have to frogg it and start again.

I finished something!

Yay! I finished my ripple rug. Well, the boys ripple rug. It does have a few ends to sew in yet. I hid most of them as I went but missed a few. We have used it already.


Now I am itching to start a new project. I am taking into consideration my slow speed and am thinking about aiming for next autumn/winter. I had a look through this great book . . .

. . . and decided I like the look of this . . .

Its done with thick yarn and thick needles and it very textural and beautiful. Hopefully I will be able to start it soon. There aren't many things as thrilling as starting a new knitting project.
